Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has revealed that she had several opportunities to become extremely wealthy but chose to walk away because they required her to compromise her values.

According to the award-winning actress, many situations presented themselves throughout her career where she could have made huge financial gains, but she decided to maintain her principles instead.

Speaking in the current episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Omotola said her faith and personal beliefs have guided many of the decisions she has made over the years.

“God has tested me many times. I used to tell people that if I wanted to be a billionaire, I would have been one easily. I had been in situations where no one would have known. I would have taken things and compromised my stand, but I would say no and walk away,” she stated.

The actress further explained that some of the individuals who made such offers are still observing her today.

“This happened many times and some of these people are even watching me today,” she noted.

Omotola also shared that some of the situations extended into political spaces where she could have benefited financially if she had chosen to compromise her beliefs.

“Even sometimes in politics, where I could have compromised my stand or what I believe in and got paid handsomely for it, but I said no,” she said.

She emphasised that not all of the opportunities presented to her were necessarily wrong, but they had the potential to weaken the values and message she stands for.

“Sometimes, they’re not even bad things. They’re just things that could rock your foundation or belief system. Those thoughts start coming that it’s not so bad, but in the long run, you know it would dilute your message and I would have to walk away,” she added.
