"Rawlings has lost control: He is useless now", Hawa Yakubu

Mrs Hawa Yakubu Ogede, the self styled "iron lady" of the Ghanaian parliament, who represents the Bawku-Central consitutuency as an independent MP, has has made a solem but critical assessment of Ghana and concluded that Flt. Lt. J J Rawlings has lost grip of the nation and has become a hapless victim of corrupt Ministers whose priority is to acquire wealth rather than do their work, writes the Ghanaian Chrobnicle.

"I can't see President Rawlings being dishonest, but I can see his wife, I can see everybody under him acquiring wealth and making the boy look completely useless", she said before participants at a recent seminar at Abokobi, a suburb of Accra.

Speaking on the theme of the debate:" The Economic Reality and Family Planning in Ghana", Mrs Ogede lamented that the irony of President Rawlings' predicament is that at the end of the day he would carry the cross which the people of this country have already prepared for him. She said that there is no doubt that Ghanains face an economiccly difficult period perhaops unparalled in the country's history. What makes it particularly harrowing, she said, is the fact that the P/NDC is supposed to be a corrective regime to ease the suffering of the people.
