Ghanaian rap star Sarkodie has opened up about his relationship with his colleague Shatta Wale, explaining why their bond goes beyond the public disagreements that often make headlines.
Speaking in a recent interview, Sarkodie revealed that he can comfortably do business with Shatta Wale without necessarily being close friends or speaking to him regularly.
“I could do business with Wale without necessarily being friends or talking back-to-back, but we actually have a great time whenever we hang out,” he said.
‘Artistes must learn to celebrate their beef’ - Shatta Wale
The rapper described Shatta Wale as one of the sincerest people he knows, explaining that the dancehall musician firmly stands by whatever he believes in, even when he is wrong.
According to Sarkodie, this trait often surprises him because they have completely different personalities.
“I am more action-driven than words. If there’s an issue, I would rather sit down with the person and talk about it. Shatta, on the other hand, will call the person out publicly,” he said.
He recalled that during the period when they spoke frequently, he would often encourage Shatta Wale to express concerns publicly while he focused on taking action behind the scenes.
“I would tell him, ‘Go and say it and I’ll do it,’ because he would say it and get away with it,” Sarkodie said with a laugh.
The award-winning rapper also reflected on their previous fallouts, noting that most of them were not caused by insults or public attacks from Shatta Wale.
Instead, he said the disagreements usually stemmed from situations where he wanted them to pursue important projects together, but Shatta Wale was unwilling to do so.
Sarkodie cited their hit collaboration “Megye Wo Girl” as a perfect example, expressing disappointment that the song never received an official music video despite its success.
“Those are the things that frustrate me. It’s not because he insulted me or anything. It doesn’t even make sense,” he said amid laughter.
He further disclosed that he never takes Shatta Wale’s public insults personally because he understands the dancehall artiste’s personality.
According to him, even if Shatta Wale were to insult him or members of his family, he would not be bothered because he knows there is usually no malicious intent behind the comments.
Sarkodie sparks reactions with cryptic post amid Stonebwoy controversy
Sarkodie said he often comes across videos of Shatta Wale criticizing him online, laughs about them, takes screenshots, and even sends them directly to him.
“I know he’s not serious. Shatta will insult you today, and tomorrow he’s fine. The way his facial expression looks makes people think he’s serious, but he’s not. So, I’ll laugh, record the video, and send it to him,” he said.
The rapper added that Shatta Wale has maintained the same personality since his Bandana days, noting that he has always admired his freestyle abilities and creative projects.
Sarkodie’s remarks come at a time when some social media users have questioned the authenticity of his relationship with Shatta Wale after the pair recently performed together at Kweku Smoke’s London concert despite their history of public fallouts.
His comments, however, suggest that their disagreements have often been misunderstood by the public, with many of their conflicts rooted more in creative frustrations than personal animosity.
