Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has stirred conversations on social media after sharing a cryptic post on X, which many fans have interpreted as a subtle response to dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.
In a post shared on June 2, 2026, Sarkodie quoted a line attributed to American rap icon Jay-Z.
In the post, Sarkodie used an analogy suggesting that one's roots never forget, even when others choose to act differently.
“The roots remember even when the trees pretend… HOV,” he wrote.

Following the post, several netizens in the comment section speculated that the message was directed at Stonebwoy, particularly in light of the latter's recent social media remarks.
What Stonebwoy said:
On May 30, 2026, Stonebwoy shared a cryptic message on social media about relationships, implying that some people maintain friendships based on convenience rather than genuine affection.
In the post, the "Jejereje" hitmaker suggested that two unnamed individuals had been pretending to be close due to personal interests and timing, describing their relationship as a "convenient friendship."
Stonebwoy further stated that even the devil would disapprove of such behaviour, where people appear friendly in public but do not have sincere intentions toward one another.

The meaning is that a person's true origins and past cannot be erased, even if they try to deny, ignore, or hide them. The foundation always "remembers" where things began.
