Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has finally broken his silence on the recent controversy sparked by a social media post made by dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.

Stonebwoy recently took to X to comment on what he described as hypocrisy and pretence within the creative arts industry.

The dancehall artiste’s cryptic remark has since been interpreted as a swipe at some industry players, suggesting that certain friendships in the entertainment space are based on convenience and pretence.

Netizens cited Sarkodie and Shatta Wale as the intended recipients of the post, owing to their renewed friendship and recent joint appearance at Kweku Smoke’s concert in London.

But reacting to the development during an interview with Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, sighted by GhanaWeb on June 5, 2026, Sarkodie dismissed assumptions that the post was directed at him and Shatta Wale.

According to Sarkodie, Stonebwoy did not mention any names in the post, and he does not want to respond based on mere speculation.

“Let me be honest, I would like to hear it directly from him if it’s about Shatta Wale and me. But if he puts out a tweet, maybe people are linking it to the timing of what we did. I’ve been there several times. There was a time I literally sent one of my boys to get me gari, and people thought I was talking about the president.

“So I don’t want to play that game where my brother says something, and everyone assumes they know exactly what he means. If I meet him or he texts me and says this is what he meant, then I’ll know how to speak to him. But I don’t want to delve into assumptions because I haven’t had a conversation with him to know exactly what he was talking about,” he said.

Sarkodie further raised concerns about how moments of celebration in Ghana are often overshadowed by unnecessary controversies.

According to him, such distractions often diminish the impact of months of hard work and progress, adding that Ghanaians need to reflect on that pattern.

“Over the years, whenever Ghana has a beautiful moment, something always comes up to distract from it. You may think it’s funny, but I believe we need serious prayers.

“For some reason, something happens, whether intentional or not, and it kills the whole beautiful moment. I don’t know where that comes from, but we may have to pray and break that cycle because it happens too often,” he added.
