Businessman removes roofing sheets of tenant

Akyem Swedru, May 04, GNA - The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Friday granted a 10 million cedis bail to Amoah Kwasi Mintah, a businessman, for removing roofing sheets from his tenant's building resulting in damage to property estimated at 9.4 million cedis. Mintah, who pleaded not guilty to two counts of inducing a tenant to quit and causing unlawful damage, would reappear on June 07. Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court that the complainant is a baker while the accused is the Managing Director of Great Birim Company limited at Akyem Oda.

He said about 30 years ago, the complainant rented three rooms from the then U.A.C but Mintah later became owner of the house after the company had sold it to him.

The complainant and the accused entered into a one-year tenancy agreement that expired on December 31 last year. The prosecutor said after the agreement had expired, the complainant approached the accused to allow her to stay in the house for an extra one year and he agreed.

On April 27 Mintah sent a carpenter to remove all the roofing sheets from the complainant's room. Unfortunately, there was a heavy rainfall and the complainant's personal belongings and goods including bags of salt, sugar cartons of baking margarine valued at 9.4 million cedis were damaged. 04 May 07
