Rawlings on elections

The President Flt-Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has called on chiefs to advise their people to desist from provocative utterances which could bring tension in the country during this election year. He made the call at the Castle, Osu, when he received a delegation from Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware. The delegation was at the Castle to express the gratitude of the Asantehene and his people to the president for participating in the Silver Jubilee celebration of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Opoku Ware. President Rawlings said the government on its part will ensure that the elections are conducted in a disciplined and peaceful manner. He said it was an honour and privilege to have taken part in OtumfuoAEs Silver Jubilee celebrations. President Rawlings said the celebrations showed the strength and unity of the Ashantis which take their roots from the dedication and loyalty within the Ashanti hierarchy. He said the democratic structure within the hierarchy is commendable and worth of emulation by all. The Special Assistant to the President, Mr Nathan Quao said Ghanaians are proud and grateful that the traditional splendour displayed during the celebrations has been preserved for posterity. He commended Otumfuo Opoku Ware for his efforts towards peace in the country. The delegation was led by the Ejisuhene, Nana Aboagye Agyei.
