Civil Servnats Charged To Be Cost-Effective

Accra Civil Servants were today urged to adopt relevant private sector business practices and be cost effective in the execution of plans and programmes. They should be fast, reliable and business-like in their approach to the delivery of service, Dr Robert Dodoo, Head of the Civil Service, said in Accra today. He was speaking at a day's induction course for 154 newly recruited Assistant Directors in the administrative class of the service. They will be taken through subjects like "Strategies for Decision making", "Personnel management and Decentralisation in the Civil Service" as well as "Civil Servants and the Minister". Dr Dodoo said their enrollment is in fulfilment of government's commitment to employment as envisaged in Vision 2020. He told them to see their employment as a challenge "to help raise the living standard of the people ... by eliminating hunger, poverty and diseases." Dr Dodoo reminded them of the new environment in which citizens are becoming aware of their rights and asked them to render quality service. "Make maximum use of facilities available to improve yourselves and give quality service to your nation". Mr G. Haldane-Lutterodt, Chief Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry who chaired the function, urged them to be resolute in the discharge of their duties.
