Atwima honours its eminent citizens

Nkawie (Ash), Dec 17, GNA - The Atwima District Assembly has honoured three of its prominent citizens and one non-citizen for their achievements both at the national and international levels.

They are Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the Chief Executive of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mrs Justice Georgina Kusi-Appau, a Supervising High Court Judge, Mr T.F. Asare, 1998 National Best Farmer and Rev Kwabena Darko, Chief Executive of Darko Farms, a non-citizen, who had given employment to many citizens of Atwima.

Mr Charles Yeboah, the Atwima District Chief Executive, speaking at the function said the ceremony was the beginning of the assembly's plan to honour any citizen of the district who distinguished himself or herself in any field of endeavour.

A citation read by the DCE commended Profr Frimpong-Boateng for the love he had for his motherland and for winning several national and international awards and thus bringing honour not only to himself but Atwima.

The citation for Mrs Kusi-Appau said for a woman to rise to the top echelon of the judiciary, especially at a time the judiciary had come under scrutiny, is a rare feat worthy of recognition. It said her achievement is a beacon of hope to young girls who the district expects to raise to greater heights.

The citation on Mr Asare said winning the National Best Farmer award proved that the people of Atwima are hardworking and methodical farmers.

On Rev Kwabena Darko, it said even though he does not hail from Atwima his achievements on the international scene, the employment his poultry business has generated and his respect for the Atwima hospitality were worthy of recognition.

The assembly also honoured some outstanding assembly members as well as heads of departments in the district.
