Paul List Wins Barclays Golf Tourney

Accra (GAR), July 14, -- Paul List scored 78 points to win this year's annual Barclays Bank (Ghana) Limited Open Golf Championship played at the Achimota Golf course at the weekend. J. Wottenburg took the second position with 74 points and was followed by S.K. Klah, who defeated S.D. Odame on count back after both had scored 72 points. The fifth and sixth positions were taken by Atsu Gouvinus and R. Sampson with 66 and 65 points respectively. The Ladies trophy was won by Adelaide Owusu Agyepong with 67 points while Florence Etwi-Barimah placed second, beating Suzzie Abaloo on countback when they both scored 63 points. The two-day competition, which attracted 150 amateur golfers, formed part of activities marking the 80th anniversary celebration of the Barclays Bank. Mr Dan Dennis, captain of Achimota Golf Club, praised Barclays Bank for their "immense contributions" to the club. Mr Mike Bristow, Managing Director of the Bank, in a brief history of the bank's activities, said the bank has introduced the Business Master, an electronic banking system which enables businesthrough their personal computers. Mr Bristow on behalf of the bank presented a cheque for two million cedis to the club. Present was Nana Wereko Ampem the second, President of the Achimota Golf club and chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank.
