Former DCE petitions Brong Ahafo police command

Sunyani, April 28, GNA - Mr Mohammed Kwaku Poku, a former Asunafo District Chief Executive, has appealed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command to respond "honestly, timely and professionally" to the recent disturbances at Mim to ensure a lasting peace in the area. Mr Poku made the appeal in a petition addressed to the Regional Police Commander on recent security issues at Mim.

He said the only antidote to the crisis "is for your office to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the initial assault and brutalities that triggered off the series of disturbances in Mim." Mr Poku said perpetrators of the brutal assault on the public-spirited chairman of the unit committee, who organized communal labour to clear a thicket suspected to be the hide-out for criminals, drug peddlers and addicts, must be brought to justice. "Any attempt to use Nana Adututu Kwarteng and 10 others for alleged possession of arms will be scratching the surface of the matter and the end result will be too chaotic to handle", the former DCE said.

Mr Poku stated that Mim was the economic and industrial hub of Brong Ahafo Region and no individual or group of persons should be allowed to hold the people of Mim to ransom. Recent riots in Mim culminated in the arrest of Nana Adututu Kwarteng, Benkumhene of Mim Traditional Area and 10 others for alleged possession of arms.
