Parkoso chief denies supplying youth with weapons

Parkoso (Ash), Nov. 12, GNA - Nana Agyei Marfo, Chief of Parkoso near Kumasi has denied rumours making the rounds in the town that he has been supplying weapons to a group of young men to intimidate his opponents.

He has therefore, asked his people to stop levelling unfounded allegations against him since that could undermine the peace in the town.

Addressing a press conference at Parkoso to outline a number of development projects, he intended undertaking in the town as part of the second anniversary of his enstoolment, Nana Marfo charged his people to offer constructive criticisms and refrain from maligning people to destroy their reputation.

The projects, which were estimated at about 1.5 billion cedis, which would be executed within three years, included the construction of a community centre, a vocational and technical school, a new stool house and a chief's palace.

The rest were the sinking of a new borehole to augment the present one which serves as the only source of drinking water for the community and the construction of a post office and a market.

According to Nana Marfo, the Department of Town and Country Planning had been tasked to re-zone the community to allow for proper development and that he has also released a 20-acre land for the establishment of a 13-billion-cedi seminary for the Ecclesiastical Province of Kumasi of the Catholic Church.

He advised the youth against hooliganism and called for peaceful co-existence among citizens of the town, pointing out "no development can take place in an atmosphere of chaos and violence".
