Two units in a mock disaster exercise

Sekondi, (Western Region) 12 Oct. '98 The Ghana Navy and the National Disaster Management Organisation have jointly organised a three-hour simulation exercise at Sekondi.

The exercise, which is meant to put the Navy on the alert and in preparedness for any disaster, forms part of preparations for the celebration of World Disaster Day.

According to the scenario, "Mamba" and "Aggressor", two hitherto friendly countries became enemies overnight after a row over a football match, which left ten people from Mamba dead.

Many people from both countries loaded themselves onto boats bound for the Sekondi beach in an escape bid.

Unfortunately, the boats capsized after developing faults and the Navy and NADMO were called in to rescue the passengers.

The Police, Navy and the Red Cross provided first aid to those rescued.
