International music/ entertainment channel MTV Base Africa has listed top Ghanaian rappers Sark, Omar Sterling, Worlasi, Edem, and BBNZ’s E.L among their 2016 list of hottest MCs in the country.
This year has been very eventful for the rap scene in the country, with M.anifest and Sarkodie capturing the headlines for a significant while with their intense lyrical feud.
Omar Sterling’s September mixtape Victory Through Harmony also made a strong case for lyricism, which many felt was in the decline. The project received praise from top music critics and industry colleagues alike, prominent among them being controversial FOKN Bois member Wanlov Da Kuborlor.
Other acts which made the list include VRMG frontman Edem, FlowKing Stone, Pappy Kojo, Ko-jo Cue, D-Black, and fast-rising Supreme Rights fellow Worlasi Lagani, whose various contribution to hiphop in Ghana cannot be questioned.
Owned by Viacom International Media Networks Europe, MTV Base is available in United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Ireland, Nigeria and West Africa, Kenya, South Africa, and are responsible for such widely popular shows as Shuga (Nigerian and Kenyan), MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and MTV Africa Music Awards.
