Let's Be Serious For Once

TV3 has for the past couple of weeks being telecasting a programme call the 'mentor' of which Ghanaians(as usual) are teeming to watch and talking about it at the least opportunity. the programme has so far generated some debates from different as to the relevance of the show.

But my worry pushes me to ask these small question: have we not got anything to show the youth?

what relevance or benefit will the show be to the youth (of which i am a part) and the larger society?aren't there any better alternatives programmes than this?

it is inctreasingly becoming clear that our TV stations have not better programmes to show us!?look at the number of soaps operas on our screens- mexican, italian, korean, japanese, spanish and i'm thinking pretty soon we may have one from mars.

my problem and i know most of you also, with these programmes is that they in no way contribute to the socio-economic development of our country. they rather turn the youth and their viewers into 'foreign-ghanaians' where every facets of their lifestyle is foreign but with the ghanaian touch.

have the mexicans and those foreign soaps have a single programme featuring (ed) ghanaians running on their screens?i believe most of them haven't even heard of West Africa albeit Ghana.

gone were the days when we used to have nice and educative programmes on our screens which had the local touch but won the hearts of many...now anyone come down bring in a soap and bang! it is a hit. haven't we got any sense of belonging, where we will see more of ourselves than being like Marco,Lorenzo,Juan carlos etc.

its high time GTV and the rest lived their social responsillity status...where are those fine and brilliamnt ghanaian actors?

i want to send a plea to the numerous sponsors of theses programmes to delve into the feelings and wants of the ghanaian viewers than the media setting the programmes for the public to watch.
