Despite the lifting of his ban and even striking a partnership with Charterhouse, which handled ShattaFest in 2025, many thought the dancehall musician was back in the game of contesting for the TGMAs.
However, fans were quick to notice that Shatta Wale was missing from the 2026 TGMA nominations, despite releasing hit songs.
TGMA spokesperson Robert Klah, in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, clarified that Shatta Wale’s absence from the 2026 nominations was a deliberate decision by his management team, not a snub by the organisers.
He explained that Shatta has been eligible to participate in the awards scheme since February 12, 2021, when his ban was officially lifted, nearly two years after it was imposed in May 2019 following a stage altercation with Stonebwoy at the 20th edition of the awards.

According to Klah, Shatta Wale’s camp communicated that they were not interested in filing for nominations and were comfortable staying out of the scheme.
“Ever since the ban was lifted, he could be part of the scheme, but I think, from his camp, they clearly said they are okay not participating in the scheme,” Klah said.
The clarification is particularly noteworthy given that Shatta Wale and Charterhouse appear to be on good terms.
Robert Klah revealed that Shatta participated in meetings with the organisers before and after his birthday, pointing to a cordial working relationship between both parties.
He further confirmed that the door remains open, noting that the relationship between Shatta Wale and Charterhouse continues to be positive despite his decision to stay off the nominations.
