Govt to ensure proper placement of workers

Cape Coast, Nov 2, GNA - The Minister of Public Sector Reform, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, on Thursday, said the government will next year, embark on a 93comprehensive job analysis for the proper placement=94 of workers, and warned that workers who would also be found wanting in the performance of their duties, will be laid off.

He said currently, a new comprehensive salary structure for all categories of workers, in addition to new income adjustments, had already been worked out and incorporated in the next budget. Dr Nduom, was interacting with members of the Central Region House of Chiefs on projects to be undertaken with funds from the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), and other pertinent issues, at Cape Coast. He said a Commission would be set up to oversee the annual review of salaries.

Touching on salary demands being made by members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) which amounts to 29 trillion cedis, the minister explained that such demands cannot be met, adding that the national annual total revenue from taxes was only 26 trillion cedis.

He said of the amount, 11 trillion cedis went into payment of workers' emoluments and stressed the need for an increase in the payment of taxes.

The president of the house, Nana Kwamina Ansah VII, Omanhene of the Eguaafo Traditional Area, reiterated an appeal made earlier by the National House of Chiefs to NAGRAT to return to the classroom.
