Feb 10 -- Ghana Airways flight from Heathrow to Accra was suspended on Sunday. The only serviceable DC10 aircraft was seized by British Airports Authority(BAA) for non-payment of fees.
According to an insider source, the cheque issued to BAA bounced. BAA management was angered by this, so they decided to seize the aircraft. BAA did not inform Ghana Airways about their intention until check-in time on Sunday. So one can imagine the chaos at Terminal 3 in Heathrow.
The following day, Monday, Ghana Airways tried to settle part of the debt. €110,000 was transfered to BAA, so the flight was rescheduled for Monday night. However, BAA did not release the aircraft, because the money had not reflected in their accounts.
According to latest information the flight might leave for Accra today at 1500 hrs, that is if BAA confirms that the money has arrived in their accounts.
So there you have it folks. One would have thought the station manager of Ghana Airways at Heathrow would be sympathetic to passengers, but no. He could be heard at the top of his voice swearing at passengers at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Some manager.
We Ghanaians must tell the govt we had enough of these embarrassment. I suggest the Airline be sold off.
