Teachers Blast Government

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called on the government to reinstate all teachers under the Teachers Pension Ordinance (Cap-30) or overhaul the SSNIT pension scheme to reflect the economic realities of the time.

The association said there is gross injustice and indecency being meted out to workers under the SSNIT pension scheme. Making the call at a reception for the media, the National President of the Association, Kwame Amo-Darko warned against any future intended wage freeze.

He expressed concern over the inability of government to correct the problems of distortions in salary and wage administration in the country. The GNAT President said it was regrettable that the government was not taking positive action to correct the underlying problems of salary distortions, but is instead embarking on selective remedies for various groups.

The association called for the prompt payment of appropriate allowances to teachers.
