Tony Aidoo Fired?

The former Deputy Minister of Defence, Tony Aidoo has been unseated as the Research Director of the party. He lost his seat to Kwamena Ahwoi, former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and first Minister of Economic Planning and Regional Integration. This changes follow the new constitution of the party, which mandates the National Executive Committee (NEC) to appoint four new directors. Tony Aidoo was reportedly furious at a meeting that took place last Thursday, during which the decision was arrived at.

Three officials have also been appointed to newly created departments in the party. Mr. John Mahama, MP for Bole and former Minister of Communications, takes up the responsibility as the party(quote)s Director of Communications, while Mr. Kofi Attor, MP for Ho Central and Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, has been appointed Director of International Relations. Mr. Asiapeh assumes the position of Director of Technical and Administration.

The NEC, in compliance with the party?s relevant constitutional provisions, has also co-opted five members into the committee.

They are Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, Mr J. H. Owusu-Acheampong, Dr John Abu, Mr. Daniel Ohene Agyekum and Mr Ibrahim Adam. A statement issued in Accra by the NDC said the co-option is intended to achieve more internal unity and cohesion in the party and at the same time address the important issues of regional balance.

The statement also announced the setting up of some constitutional committees. They include the Political Committee, with Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu as Chairman; the Economic Committee, with Mr Moses Asaga as Chairman, and the Social Services Committee, which has Mr J. H. Owusu-Acheampong as Chairman.
