Driver fined five million cedis for negligently causing harm.

Tema, April 10, GNA- A truck driver who drove carelessly and negligently caused harm leading to the amputation of a passenger's right hand has been fined five million cedis by the Tema circuit court "A".

Joseph Tetteh pleaded guilty to careless driving and negligently causing harm and will go to prison for two years if he fails to pay the fine. Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu, that on October 22, 2002, at about 8:30 p.m., Tetteh was driving the truck loaded with 100 empty drums from Tema motorway roundabout towards Kpone on the Aflao road.

On reaching a section of the road he diverted his route off the lane and collided with a pick-up and Mr Paul Aidoo who was on the Pick-up sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where his right arm was amputated.

Tetteh failed to produce valid insurance certificate policy for his vehicle, the prosecution said.
