Hit-and-run soldier charged

Tema, March 1, GNA- A Staff Sergeant who failed to attend to a man he knocked down with a car and later died, has appeared before the Tema Circuit Court "B".

Staff Sgt. Frank Addo pleaded not guilty to careless driving and failing to stop to attend to Mr Saviour Yevu.

His bail has been secured by the military.

The prosecution said on January 9, 2001, at about 1830 hours Staff Sgt Addo was driving an Opel Kadett from Michel Camp towards Burma Camp. She said on reaching a spot at Klagon near Lashibi, he knocked down Mr Yevu, who was crossing the road. The soldier failed to attend to Yevu and drove away.

Mr Ebenezer Ebo Quainoo who was driving his Toyota Pick-Up behind the accused had him arrested and handed over to the police.
