50th Anniversary of Epichurch

A special remembrance church service to mark the 150th anniversary of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana was held at Keta in the Volta Region on Sunday 9, November. The service was preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Dzelukope and Keta cemeteries where the Bremen Missionaries from Germany who were the first to arrive in Ghana, were buried. In a message, the MP for Keta, Mr.. Dan Abodakpi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Trade and Tourism appealed tot he two EP Churches to seek dialogue to end their split, instead of adopting a confrontational attitude. He said it is disgraceful indeed for the two sister churches to fight over doctrinial differences. Mr.. Abodakpi commended the Police for ensuring total peace during the celebration. He advised Christians not to limit themselves to the activities involving their sects but christianity as a whole. To this end, the two EP Churches shouls not allow their personal ambitions to erode the gains of the church in the Volta Region. Mr.. Abodakpi commended the EP Church in Ghana for its pioneering role in the region especially in the field of education saying it is a pride for the country as a whole. In a sermon, the Moderator of the EP Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Commander F. H. Gbewornyo, called for a new sense of trust in doing things by the christian community. He said the doors of the EP Church of Ghana are still open for dialogue. The Rt. Rev. Commander Gbewornyo was optimistic that very soon, the impasse between the two EP Churches would come to an end.
