Sene District AIDS committee calls for assistance

Kwame Danso (B/A), Oct 7, GNA - Mr David Nartey, the Monitoring and Evaluation Focal Person on HIV/AIDS in the Sene District, has appealed to the Ghana AIDS Commission to give financial support to Community-Based Organisations in the district to enable them to embark on education programmes.

Mr Nartey told the GNA that nine CBOs in the district have organized themselves to be visiting various communities to educate the people on HIV/AIDS but the Commission's delay in approving their proposals was hampering their plans.

He said a 15-member District HIV/AIDs Committee to oversee the activities of the CBOs has been inaugurated and that reports received from the Atebubu District Hospital indicate that there is high incidence of the disease in the District.

Mr Nartey said the poor state of the roads in the area is one of the major problems that would face the CBOs in their efforts to reach the people in the hinterlands and appealed to Commission to provide motorbikes to the district HIV/AIDS committe.
