President Kufuor holds talks with Guinea-Bissau leader

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA- ECOWAS Chairman President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday, pledged the support of leaders in the West African Sub-Region to restore democratic rule in Guinea-Bissau.

He said the leaders were aware of the circumstances that brought the interim government into power and the challenges faced in the restoration of democratic rule, therefore, they would not relent to assist the government and the people.

President Kufuor made the pledge when Mr Henrique Perira Rosa, Leader of the Interim Government in Guinea-Bissau, who is on a day's visit to Ghana, called on him at the Castle, Osu.

The visit was part of Mr Rosa's three-nation tour that would also take him to Nigeria and Niger.

President Kufuor congratulated Mr Rosa on his appointment and appreciation of the government and people of Guinea-Bissau to Ghana's First President Dr Kwame Nkrumah in the role he played in their struggle for independence.

Mr Rosa expressed gratitude to leaders in the Sub-Region for rallying behind the people of Guinea-Bissau in the wake of the bloodless military coup d'etat.

The insurgence on Sunday, September 14, led by General Verissimo Correia Seabra toppled the former President Koumba Yala. Mr Rosa was appointed the Interim Leader on September 28 to form the interim government that would be in office for 18 months to prepare for general elections.
