Chirano Mines provides boreholes to seven communities

Etwebo (W/R), Feb 10, GNA - The management of Chirano Gold Mines in the Western region has provided 10 boreholes to seven communities within its operational area at the cost of 90,000 dollars. The communities are Akoti, Etwebo, Paboase, New Obrayeko, Surano, Anyinasie and Kwenikrom.

Speaking at the handing over of the boreholes to the communities at Etwebo, Mr John Seaward, General Manager of the Mine, said the provision of the boreholes for med part of the mine's social responsibility arrangement.

He said the mine had set up a trust fund to promote development programmes in the communities.

Mr Eric Darko, Community and Public Relations Manager of the Mine, announced that plans were underway to train some members of the communities in the repair of the boreholes. He, however, appealed to the communities to establish an internal fund to deal with emergencies in case of any fault with the boreholes. Nana Yaw Ampofo, chief of Etwebo, appealed to the management of the Mine to employ some of the youth of the town.
