Ghana Re-Insurance assists health institutions

Accra, Oct.29, GNA - The Ghana Re-Insurance Company Limited (GRC) on Wednesday presented cheques totalling 95 million cedis and three vehicles to five health institutions.

The institutions were the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Ghana Heart Foundation (GHF), Ghana National Trust Fund (GNTF), Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The CHS received a cheque for 50 million cedis; GHF got 30 million cedis and GNTF had 15 million cedis.

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital received two vehicles, a 28-seater Mitsubishi bus and a Honda saloon car while Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi had a Honda saloon car.

Dr Jacob Kenneth Kwakye-Maafo, Member of the Board of Directors of the Company, who made the presentation, said the modest financial and material contribution of the company was to help improve health care delivery.

He pledged the Company's support to the Health Sector and expressed the hope that the presentation would help motivate health personnel to curb the brain drain in the Sector.

Professor Andrews Seth Aryettey, Provost of the CHS and Chairman of the Korle-Bu Management Board, who received the cheques and vehicles on behalf of the institutions, said the vehicles would improve the quality of health care delivery in the country.

Professor Aryettey appealed to other companies and industries to invest in the training of health personnel to enable them to provide excellent health care delivery.

In another development, GRC had presented a 160 KVA generator valued at 121 million cedis to the Ridge Hospital in Accra. The Hospital was in the news recently when it was alleged that a patient died on the operating table because there was power outage at the Hospital.
