Ghana Universities Pensioners Association

holds Congress

LEGON, Accra, Aug. 6, GNA - The Executive Members of the Ghana Universities Pensioners Association (GUPA) on Saturday, held a one-day Congress at the University of Ghana Campus.

The Congress brought together 20 participants from the three oldest universities in Ghana -- the University of Ghana, Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi and the University of Cape Coast.

In an interview with the GNA, the Chairman of the University of Ghana Pensioners Association, Mr. Peter K. Nukpe said the Congress revised the constitution of the Ghana Universities Pensioners Association after the three chairmen of the universities brought in new ideas.

He said GUPA was established on April 29 1989, to bring the retired workers of the universities in Ghana together. The retired workers included lecturers, senior and junior workers of the Universities.

Answering questions on the active pensioners who attend meetings at the three universities, he said the number stood at 1,350, with the breakdown as, KNUST 200, UCC 250 and Legon, 900 active members
