NAVASCO sail through to semis

Navrongo Senior Secondary School (NAVASCO) managed to sail through to the semi finals of this year's VALCO SSS soccer tournaments when they beat Osei Kwretwie Secondary School (OKESS) 4-3 on penalties at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Scores at the end of regulation time was 1-1. Earlier in the day, Apam salvaged their image with a 6-5 win on penalties against Tamale Business SSS after the two sides had drawn 1-1 in regulation time.

Defending Champions, Aggrey Memorial play Apam in the first semi final match on Thursday to be followed by Navasco versus Pojos later in the day. The winners after Thursday's encounters would clash on Friday in the grand finale.

OKESS had greater of the exchanges but could not make the needed impact by putting the ball into net. The Kumasi lads however, made amends in the 38th minute through a free kick beautifully delivered by substitute Nan Yaw Sarfo-Katanka to register the first goal.

OKESS held on to the thin lead till the end of the first half but disaster struck the team later in the second half when two of their key players were sent off for second bookable offence.

Midfield-general Osei Gyekye Joseph and skipper Emmanuel Amankwah were sent off in the 51st and 53rd minutes which Navasco capitalised on to equalise in the 70th minute. Hakeem Yahaya took advantage of a defensive to score.
