Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, spokesperson for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has responded to reports that Chairman Wontumi’s health is deteriorating.

Speaking on Adom FM on October 27, 2026, Dr Boakye-Danquah said he was not aware of any deterioration in Wontumi’s health, adding that he was in good health despite being in prison.

“Chairman Wontumi is fine and in good health by the grace of God,” he said.

According to him, they are very hopeful that the court would grant Wontumi bail pending appeal when the matter comes up next week.

“What we are praying for is that the trial judge, Her Ladyship Kocuvie-Tey, who is presiding over his bail pending appeal application, will grant him bail when we go to court next week.

“We look forward to having Wontumi back with us at home, whether permanently or temporarily until the appeal matter is resolved,” he shared.

Dr Boakye-Danquah also said he had had several engagements with Wontumi since his incarceration and had not received any indication from him that he was seriously ill.

He also said he had not heard reports from prison officials that Wontumi had been repeatedly admitted to the prison infirmary because of a critical health condition.

“I have had several engagements with Chairman Wontumi since his incarceration, and he has never mentioned to me that he is gravely ill,” he said.

According to him, Wontumi appeared healthy when he went to court on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and walked without assistance.

“He was in court yesterday looking all healthy, and walked by himself with no assistance and so, per all this there is no way I can say he is gravely ill,” he added.

Dr Boakye-Danquah said the main concern of Wontumi and his supporters was for the court to grant him bail while he pursues his appeal.

His comments follow claims by Bono Regional NPP Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, that Chairman Wontumi was unwell while in prison.
According to Abronye, the party's leadership is deliberately withholding information about Chairman Wontumi's alleged ill health to prevent supporters from becoming worried about his condition.

Speaking on his Ohia TV show, excerpts of which have been shared on social media, Abronye claimed that Chairman Wontumi was suffering in prison because of what he described as fabricated allegations against him.

Wontumi seriously sick in prison, NPP leadership afraid to disclose his condition – Abronye

"I am telling you today that Chairman Wontumi is sick. If anybody tells you that he is fine, that is a lie. NPP followers and supporters, if any of the party's leaders tells you that he is well, it is a lie. Chairman Wontumi is sick.

"They don't want to say it because supporters will get worried, so don't let anybody lie to you. Even if the prison authorities say he is fine, it is a lie. He is suffering because of lies that were fabricated against him," he stated.
