The election for the Deputy Women’s Organiser position in the Nkwanta North constituency has been suspended following a dispute over ballot paper order arrangements.
The decision to put the exercise on hold came after an error on the ballot sheet was identified on election day, triggering confusion and disagreement among party members and stakeholders present at the venue.
Details emerging indicate that the layout of the candidates on the ballot paper was altered without prior notification. One of the aspirants, Madam Victoria, who had originally secured the number one slot during the balloting process, had her position swapped on the printed ballot sheets.
Speaking on the weekend morning show on Accra-based Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Madam Victoria expressed her frustration, explaining that after picking the first position on the ballot during the official procedure, she discovered on election day that her opponent had been placed at number one while her name was pushed to position number two.
She stated that the unexpected change severely disrupted her strategy, as she had based her campaign entirely on being the first candidate on the sheet. According to her, her team had spent weeks rallying supporters and campaigning vigorously around the number one spot, and the sudden shift compromised her chances in the contest.
The discovery led to strong protests at the voting center, causing temporary tension among party members and delegates. Election officials subsequently suspended the poll for the Deputy Women’s Organiser portfolio to address the anomaly and prevent further disruption.
Party authorities are expected to resolve the placement discrepancy and announce a new date for the affected contest.
