Former Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has questioned why President John Dramani Mahama is taking what he described as a long approach to dealing with incendiary comments instead of asking US-based Ghanaian commentator, Kevin Taylor, to stop verbally abusing persons believed to be political opponents of the NDC.

Nitiwul, speaking on TV3, on September 23, 2026, said the approach could be tested by first asking Taylor to stop making insulting comments and then observing whether others, including social media personality Ghana Jollof, would also stop.

His comments come following President Mahama’s call for a national dialogue on hate speech and digital content.

Nitiwul said Ghana Jollof has maintained that she is responding to Taylor’s comments and would stop if he also stopped.

“Let me go back to the first individual, Kevin Taylor, who has led this charge over the last seven years, and then Ghana Jollof has entered into the fray, and others are unfortunately now copying, over the last three months. They all say it's because Kevin Taylor is doing the insulting; that's why they are doing that. If Kevin Taylor stops it, they will all stop,” he argued.

Nitiwul therefore questioned why the government would not directly engage Taylor to end the comments before pursuing other measures.

“So instead of the president organizing all this long way of doing things, why does he not ask Kevin Taylor to stop? Why can't the government just ask Kevin Taylor to stop? …and sees whether the others will stop or they will not stop. It's a simple thing,” he said.

“Ghana Jollof says, I'm responding because they are not asking Kevin Taylor to stop. Kevin Taylor says that the president gave him the job to do, and so if Kevin Taylor stops today, I will stop. Why can't Kevin Taylor be controlled? Why can't he stop?” he added.

Nitiwul also referred to Taylor’s return to Ghana and the government’s alleged protection of him, arguing that the government cannot distance itself from his actions.

“…the government cannot run away from Kevin Taylor because he came here; they gave him state protection; they made sure that he won his case in court, and he's free doing that,” he noted.

He maintained that the issue could be addressed without taking what he considered a longer route.

“All they need to do is a very simple thing. Don't let us take the long route. Call Kevin Taylor and tell him, do your journalism don't insult anybody… You will see everybody else will stop,” he concluded.
