In my days teacher met with students and parents to decide the best, better and good schools for each student based on their performance. The goal was to pick the best schools from three categories that will suit the child's needs and performance. It is foolish to pick all the three schools from the same category. Selecting university courses, after the WASSE, has been the norm, because it allows candidates to match grades with cutoff grades for various courses. The computerised system, does its job, as it has been programmed to do. It is desire of parents, and rightly so, to get wards into the not so many category A schools that is the problem. Upgrading so called category B and C should be a matter of urgent priority, and this can be fast tracked by improving quality of teaching, learning, and supervision before thinking of infrastructure later
