Paul Afoko, a former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and current aspirant for the party’s chairmanship, has described himself as a victim of severe factionalism within the party.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show in a video shared on X on August 3, 2026, Afoko claimed that if there's one person who has suffered severely, it's him, while further urging members to set aside divisions and unite.

"If you want someone who has severely suffered from factionalism, then I am the example, but at the same time, I have decided that it is time for us to recalibrate our thinking and come back together," he said.

The remarks come as Afoko campaigns for the NPP National Chairmanship ahead of the party’s National Delegates’ Conference later this year.

Afoko, who previously served as National Chairman between 2014 and 2015, has repeatedly highlighted the dangers of internal divisions.

In the interview, he warned that further weakening of the NPP would endanger Ghana’s democracy.
