Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has come to the defence of convicted former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, following the Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn her 10-year jail sentence.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, monitored by GhanaWeb on July 31, 2026, Edudzi Tamakloe stated that former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Stephen Amoah, popularly known as Sticka, renegotiated the contracts during his tenure.

He explained that the payments in question were made based on those renegotiated contracts.

According to him, Sedina Tamakloe’s conviction was the result of what he described as a wrongful prosecution orchestrated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to create the impression that it was serious about fighting corruption.

“If you look at Sticka’s testimony under cross-examination, he admitted that when he took over as Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, he renegotiated the contracts. On the basis of those renegotiated contracts, payments were made. Meanwhile, Sedina was convicted for causing financial loss to the state.

“I know that as a political party, the NPP wanted to show that it was serious about fighting corruption. Curiously, it was under the NPP administration that the full value for the buses was paid. Sticka, who was the first prosecution witness, admitted this in court. So what was the basis for the conviction?” he questioned.

Edudzi Tamakloe further alleged that the payments were authorised by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

“That is what most of these NPP people don’t even know that the payment was authorised by Mr Ken Ofori-Atta through a warrant. So, as we speak, Sedina is in Nsawam Prison over payments that were authorised and made by Mr Ofori-Atta,” he added.

Background:

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu had her 2024 High Court conviction and 10-year prison sentence overturned by the Court of Appeal.

The appellate court on July 30, 2026, acquitted and discharged her, ruling that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against her beyond reasonable doubt.

Following the decision, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to appeal the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

Tamakloe-Attionu, who served as MASLOC CEO from 2013 to 2017, was convicted of several charges, including using GH¢500,000 of MASLOC funds for personal use after the money was returned from Obaatanpa Micro-Finance Company Limited.
