The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Spain Branch Executive Election held on July 25, 2026, in Logroño has been plunged into a major legitimacy crisis after chairmen representing seven chapters boycotted the process and petitioned the party's National Headquarters in Accra to immediately nullify the results.

The aggrieved chapter leaders contend that the elections were severely compromised by widespread irregularities, voter register manipulation, and a deliberate disregard for the party's approved electoral guidelines, rendering the outcome null, void, and lacking democratic credibility.

Grounds for their boycott

In a formal petition addressed to the NPP Election Committee and the party’s National Secretariat, the seven chapter leaders disclosed that their decision to abstain followed extensive consultations with grassroots members across Spain.

They outlined seven primary grievances that undermined the integrity of the polls.

1. Procedural irregularities: Widespread flaws and breaches throughout the electoral process.

2. Rules manipulation: Inconsistent application and arbitrary alteration of approved election guidelines.

3. Flawed voter register: Complete lack of transparency in the compilation, audit, and verification of the official delegates list.

4. Unfair treatment: Failure to provide a level playing field and equal opportunities for all qualified candidates and delegates.

5. Exclusion of leadership: Inadequate consultation with chapter chairmen on critical electoral decisions.

6. Perceived bias: Actions and administrative directives designed to favour a specific faction.

7. Constitutional breaches: Conduct that fundamentally undermines the principles of fairness, impartiality, and accountability enshrined in the NPP Constitution.

They were of the view that the process does not reflect the democratic requirements the party proudly boasts of.

"We firmly believe that the current electoral arrangements do not reflect the democratic values, unity, integrity, and grassroots participation upon which the New Patriotic Party was founded. Proceeding under these compromised conditions has produced an outcome that lacks legitimacy and threatens to further deepen divisions within the Spain Branch," the statement said.

To resolve the growing impasse and restore stability within the diaspora branch, the seven chapter leaders have presented five non-negotiable demands to the NPP National Headquarters:

• Immediate nullification: An official declaration declaring the results of the July 25, 2026, elections null and void.

• Independent inquiry: The constitution of an independent review committee to investigate all petitions and procedural complaints.

• Voter register audit: A comprehensive, transparent audit of the official voter register and delegate accreditation procedures.

• Inclusive consultations: Direct engagement with all chapter leadership in an open, consultative framework.

• Clear guidelines & fresh polls: The establishment of enforceable, uniform electoral guidelines prior to fixing a new date for fresh elections.

The leaders firmly declared that until these core grievances are thoroughly addressed by the national leadership, their respective chapters and grassroots members will refuse to recognise any executive body emerging from the disputed Logroño elections.

The leaders emphasised that their collective action is "motivated solely by a commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the New Patriotic Party" and ensuring that diaspora elections conform to high standards of transparency and fairness.
