General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has accused the government of using the arrest of former government officials as a strategy to divert public attention anytime it is faced with pressure from the public.

Speaking to GhanaWeb during a protest by the youth wing of the NPP on Monday, July 13, 2026, he insisted that the NPP would not be intimidated by the arrests, adding that the party was aware of what he described as the government’s tactics.

“Any time the government is pushing the wall, they have to divert attention by arresting members of the New Patriotic Party. But it is not something that is going to discourage us as a political party. We know their tactics. NPP as a political party will not budge", he remarked.

Justin Kodua dismissed the allegations by EOCO, describing them as “frivolous” and part of what he called a campaign to tarnish the reputation of NPP members.

“Anyone can make any allegations. Appointees of NDC after December 7, 2020, will ask them to prepare their own charge sheet and bring it to us, if that is how they want to go,” he said.

The NPP General Secretary further accused state institutions of engaging in arbitrary arrests and denying suspects access to their lawyers.

“You keep a man from Saturday evening. You deny him access to his lawyers, and today is Monday. Very soon, the 48 hours will elapse,” he added.

Justin Kodua also cautioned government appointees to be mindful of their actions, arguing that political power is temporary.

“Power is transient and no condition is permanent. I will send a word of caution to appointees of this government that they should be worried about tomorrow,” he said.

He maintained that the NPP would return to power in 2028 and warned government officials to be cautious about how state institutions are used.

According to a statement issued by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) Dennis Edward Aboagye was arrested in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities at the IMCCoD Secretariat.

It said the arrest followed investigations initiated after a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD requesting further probes into a forensic audit conducted into the affairs of the Secretariat covering the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.

He is under investigation for conspiracy to steal and stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretenses, money laundering and other suspected offences.
