New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman hopeful Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, on Saturday June 20, 2026, pledged to work tirelessly to secure victory for former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in Ghana’s 2028 presidential election.

Speaking at the end of a constituency unity walk in Tarkwa-Nsuaem in the Western Region, Wontumi told party supporters he would not relent in efforts to return the NPP to power after its defeat in the 2024 polls.

“I will not rest until Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next president of Ghana come 2028,” he said.

The event, organised by the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency branch of the NPP under the theme, “United we walk, stronger we build,” drew hundreds of party supporters, executives and grassroots members.

Wontumi joined former Tarkwa-Nsuaem Member of Parliament George Mireku Duker and other party officials in a procession that moved from Teberebie Junction to the NPP constituency office opposite the TNA Stadium.

Supporters dressed in party colours lined the streets, chanting slogans and waving flags as the procession passed through key parts of the mining town.

Addressing the gathering afterward, Wontumi criticised what he described as the economic difficulties facing Ghanaians and urged party members to remain united as the NPP prepares for the next electoral cycle.

The unity walk formed part of broader efforts by the party to strengthen internal cohesion and mobilise its grassroots base ahead of future elections.

Mireku Duker, who hosted the event, appealed to party members to support Wontumi’s bid for the NPP national chairmanship, arguing that his leadership could help reposition the party for victory in the 2028 general election.

The NPP is expected to elect new national executives as it begins rebuilding and reorganising following its loss of power.
