'If I'm not a lawyer, then Ahwoi too isn't' - Paul Adom-Otchere fights back

Renowned broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere has defended his credentials as a lawyer following suggestions that he does not have the qualification to practise law in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on May 17, 2026, the broadcaster said that he had a law degree from the University of Ghana, as he asserted that he is a lawyer.

“There are people who were in class with me. Yes, I studied law. I have a law degree from the University of Ghana, an LLB. I was in the second batch of postgraduate students in 2021. So, that is about it,” he said while answering questions about his law credentials.

The broadcaster indicated that doubts about his qualification as a lawyer are being created by his political adversaries.

He said that after drawing a parallel between himself and National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart Prof Kwamena Ahwoi, who he said is regarded as one of the finest legal brains in the country, the people challenging his qualifications went mute.

“So, one day they said I’m not a lawyer, then I said to them, ‘If I’m not a lawyer, Kwamena Ahwoi too is not a lawyer.’ Nobody has come back after that. And I say it again, if I’m not a lawyer, then Kwamena Ahwoi, they call him a law professor, he too is not a lawyer,” he argued.

Pressed further on whether he can practise with his degree if he wants to, Paul Adom-Otchere said, “If Kwamena Ahwoi wants to practise, can he?”
