So this elder statesman of the living room decided his four adult children would not vote. Not because the Constitution said so. Not because the Electoral Commission cancelled the election. But because Daddy said so.
Let’s be clear.
This isn’t fatherhood.
It’s dictatorship with a pension.
In Ghana, voting is a right, not a family group project. The ballot box is not a report card you confiscate. You don’t “ground” grown adults from participating in democracy.
And the irony? A teacher.
The same profession that lectures students about civic duty, independence and critical thinking. But at home? Suddenly it’s: “Think freely — but only inside my syllabus.”
Sir, with respect:
If your argument was strong, you’d use persuasion.
If your ideas were solid, you’d win the debate.
If your confidence was real, you wouldn’t need to block polling station access like a nightclub bouncer.
Age is not a remote control.
Parenthood is not political ownership.
And democracy does not stop at your gate.
You can’t preach civic education in public and practice electoral cancellation in your sitting room.
That’s not wisdom.
That’s insecurity wearing traditional respect like armor.
Ayawaso East deserves better.
And so do his children.
