The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Bismarck Tawiah Boateng, has bemoaned the spate of corruption in Ghana despite the checks and balances applied in governance.
According to him, the June 4th Revolution led by Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, was aimed at cleaning the economic filth in the country like hoarding, smuggling, profiteering, bribery and corruption; but not to humiliate innocent citizens.
Mr. Tawiah Boateng who was speaking to a Radio Ghana Correspondent in Koforidua about the 38th anniversary of the June 4th Revolution, observed that the youth of today lacks the spirit of patriotism and as a result of that prioritizes seeking their selfish gains.
This, he noted, makes them siphon the nation's resources instead of rendering dedicated service for the development of Ghana.
The Regional Chairman said Ghana cannot develop rapidly as expected, if its working population do not exhibit commitment to duty for the interest of their motherland.
Mr. Tawiah Boateng pointed out that countries like Malaysia and China are ahead of Ghana due to their communal spirit and urged the Ghanaian youth also to learn from them and avoid stealing the state.
He paid tribute to those who lost their lives over three decades ago during the revolution.
Mr. Tawiah Boateng, on behalf of the NDC faithful in the Eastern Region, expressed his sympathy to the June 3rd victims at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra two years ago.
