The annual budget of my former uni was more than Ghana's national budget for 2yrs. Ghana is a waste and it is because the leaders, the old people have ruined the nation and the young ones are learning from them

Earnestly and personally, this is not the fault of graduates or students. The fact actually is that, our educational system has a fundamental problem. The problem is that, our educational system is more theoretically inclined than being practically focused, to the extent that, teachers dual so much on passing exam to make a good class; (of course, that's not bad, but there should be a blended). So, right from day one, the student goes for lectures and realise that a high emphasis is being placed on passing exam. Therefore, instead of the student understanding the concept of a course to be able to apply it on the job, they only memorise notes and reproduce it during exam. For that matter, you employ a "first class" student from KNUST, Legon, UCC, UEW, etc, who cannot perform on the job, and this is really serious. This has been the bane of Ghana's (higher) educational system and the earlier we re-structure it, the better it'll be for all us. Otherwise, it'll get worse.

Dr. Okoh has hit the nail right on the head. This is not a problem peculiar to Ghana. It is an African problem. Countries like South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius and some other SADC countries have adopted the National Qualifications Framework system to address this problem. This system is outcomes-based and focuses on what the person is able to do and not what they know. May be it is high time our leaders thought about transforming our education system from content-based to outcomes-based for the sake of skills development.

I get worried when people condemn the private universities. Are the lectures at the so-called state universities more qualified than those from the private universities? If you attend Achimota SHS and get 7As and you enter Legon and l attend Bankyiase Day Sec and I obtain 5Bs and 3Cs and l am unable to secure admission to Legon and my parents send me to Valley View University or any of the private universities, how does any right thinking human being classify me as unqualified? What imperical evidence are there to show that students from the public universities are better than those from the private ones. Afterall we know how degrees are offered to the highest bidders at the public universities. Students hardly attend lectures yet they graduate with degrees and it is normal, right?

Are industries looking out for experienced people to hire or fresh graduates? I disagree and agree to this in that most organizations do not want fresh graduates because they lack experience and cannot perform on the job immediately until they learn through probation and orientation. They wouldn't want to consider themselves as learning organizations for fresh graduates to learn and grow alongside.
We talk about practicals but in this contemporary and contingent world where studies are even on line where comes the practicals? COMPANIES MUST LEARN TO RECRUIT FRESH GRADUATES, ORIENT, TRAIN AND DEVELOP THEM RATHER THAN SEARCHING FOR 'ALREADY MADE' ONES.

Yes indeed, Ghanaian graduates are technically handicapped. It is pretty sad. But never forget that "what goes around comes around" unless mr Okoh does not appreciate the fact that, whatever command you key into a computer as an input is the same result you will get as output. " baggage in baggage out" .I'm personally suprise that Mr. Okoh is attacking poor graduates without taking a holistic retrospect of our total academic circle. Right from preschool all we teach is rhymes which are memorised and recited. Second circle is the worst of all, where " chew and pure" is the order of the day. Am very embarrased to see tertiary students looking for " grandfather" only dubbed them as their thesis topics. Mr Okoh, I believe you will bear with me that there has never been anything like complete innovation when it comes to entrepreneurship. It is always, copy paste, rebranding etc. I hope we should move to an area where we would take charge of our own ideas.
