Beninois remanded for possessing and attempting to export drugs

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - A Beninois, who allegedly swallowed pellets of cocaine in a bid to export them to the United Kingdom, appeared at the Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Monday. Honkpe Hedji Dassi, whose plea was not taken, was facing charges of possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and attempting to export narcotic drugs.

The Tribunal remanded him into prison custody to reappear on September 12.

The case of Mr Frederick Boamah, a State Attorney, was that Security Personnel at the Kotoka International Airport picked Dassi, who was travelling to London on August 12, because of his strange behaviour. He was escorted to the 37 Military Hospital, where an ex-ray showed that there were some foreign materials in his abdomen. During interrogation Dassi confessed to security personal that he had swallowed 47 pellets of narcotics drugs suspected to be cocaine. Under careful observation, Dassi expelled them. Dassi in his cautioned statement disclosed that the drugs were given to him by a Ghanaian Lady to be given to a friend in London for a fee.

He, however, failed to lead security personnel to the said Lady.
