Three suspects arrested for the offence of trial by ordeal and assault on a contestant of the Miss Commonwealth beauty pageant have been granted police enquiry bail as police wait for advice from the Attorney General’s Department.

Reports from the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Command PRO, Sergeant Francis Gomado, disclosed that on Monday, October 14, at about 2.30pm, three persons – namely Yawo Sofahu alias Togbe Shito, a fetish priest, Princess Duncan and Isaac Ever – were arrested for trial by ordeal and assault.

The suspects are alleged to have subjected Nana Ama Essien, a runner-up of Miss Commonwealth beauty pageant, to torture after accusing her of stealing.

Nana Ama Essien sustained injuries on her knees and her back.

Nana Ama Essien reported to the police that CEO of Commonwealth Beauty Pageant, Princess Duncan, and a second suspect, Isaac Ever, took her and eight others to a fetish shrine belonging to Togbe Shito at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region.

They were made to go through the ordeal to ascertain which among them stole the GH¢500 and other items at the pageant house between July and September, 2019.

The victim narrated during the ordeal that the fetish priest gave her fresh eggs to throw to the ground.

After throwing the egg, it did not break and was declared the thief.

Two male attendants, at large, assaulted her with the back side of a cutlass to get her to confess under duress.
