The Juaben Circuit Court in Ashanti, has sentenced an 18-year-old unemployed to nine year’s imprisonment for stealing a rickshaw, popularly known as (Pragia).

Ali Sadat, whole the device at Krofrom in Kumasi, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea by the Court presided over by Mr Yusif Osei Asibey.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Richard Effah, told the Court that both the complainant and the convict were residents of Krofofrom, a suburb of Kumasi.

He said on May 08, this year the complainant parked the rickshaw at the Santos hotel at Krofofrom and went to meet his manager at the Bolga lorry station.

The Prosecution said on his return, he realised his device was nowhere to be found, so he reported the matter to the Tafo-Pankrono Police.

Inspector Effah said the complainant also informed drivers who ply the Kumasi-Tamale-Bolga road about the theft and asked them to be on the lookout when they are on that road.

Inspector Effah said the next day, one of the drivers saw the convict riding the rickshaw from Offinso towards Abofour.

He said the driver stopped the convict and with the help of other people in the area, managed to arrest and handed him over to the Offinso police.

The prosecution said the convict was later transferred to the Tafo-Pankrono police, where he admitted stealing the device and was therefore charged with the offence.
