Police in the Ashanti Region has launched a manhunt for kidnappers who abducted an Indian businessman at Ahodwo Nhyiaeso in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Mr Om-Parkash Chudry, 31, was kidnapped on Thursday, 25 April 2019, at about 5:00pm.

The kidnappers, numbering about three, assaulted him and pushed him into a car and sped off.

Mr Chudry, however, struggled with the kidnappers, overpowered them and ran to hide at someone's house at Akokoamon near Pakoso in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

He called the police and was later rescued around 10:00am today, Friday, 26 April 2019.

He was then sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo told the media at a press briefing that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of $500,000 to be paid through bitcoin but the money was not paid.

ASP Ahianyo said the kidnappers managed to escape but the command is doing its best to get them arrested.

He appealed to the public to give the police credible information about such miscreants in the society.
