The Police at Asesewa in the Eastern Region have intercepted seven sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

A manhunt has been launched for the driver of the Opel Astra with registration GW 5356-13 in which the substances were concealed.

After the Police gave him a chase, the driver whose identity is yet to be established, abandoned the privately registered caravan on a section of the Porpornya – Guta road.

A search on the car revealed the substances, which were in big black polyethene bags. According to the Police, frantic efforts are being made to identify the driver and arrest him to face the law.

It said it got information that the car was transporting the substances suspected to be Indian hemp from Boti Falls to Huhunya following which personnel moved in but the driver on seeing the police resolved to speed off in an attempt to escape arrest.
