Four persons in the Gomoa West district of the Central Region have been arrested by the Apam Police for allegedly possessing substances believed to be Indian hemp. The arrest was done in a special swoop by the people, as part of efforts to rid the community of suspected criminals.

The four suspects arrested are Nana Kwesi Afful, 36, John Donkor alias Kwesi Mensa, 45, Francis Kwesi Zakari, 19, and Razak Ussif, 21.

The Apam District Police Commander, ASP Cephas Edzeani, told the press in an interview that the exercise was part of the police’s efforts to flush criminals out of their hideout as part of preparations towards the November 7 polls.

According to him, Nana Kwesi Afful was arrested at Gomoa Nkran on suspicion of dealing in ‘wee’. A search conducted at his residence revealed 18 medium-sized parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 31 small rolls.

He added that John Donkor, a drinking spot operator, was also caught at the bar with 117 small wraps of the same substance and a half-gallon of ‘akpeteshie’ mixed with the suspected leaves.

Francis Kwesi Zakari and Razak Ussif were smoking at a hideout, where upon sighting police took to their heels. But they were chased and arrested by the cops.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be processed for court tomorrow.
