Taxi car thief granted bail

A Kumasi Circuit Court has granted a 32- year- old driver, Kofi Joshua a GH¢ 10,000.00 bail with a surety, for allegedly stealing a taxi.

His accomplice, Oheneba Afriyie, also a taxi driver, was also granted bail in the same amount for dishonestly receiving.

They are to reappear before the court presided over by Madam Comfort Tasiame on June 26.

Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako, prosecuting told the Court, that the complainant in the case is an auto electrician and the owner of an Opel Astra cab with registration number AS 9242-Z.

He said Joshua, a resident of Nyankyereniase, near Abuakwa, on March 3, asked the complainant to allow him use his taxi for commercial purposes.

Chief Inspector Amoako said Joshua, after receiving the keys to the car vacated his residence and went into hiding.

Several attempts by the complainant to locate the accused and the car proved futile.

On April, 12, 2015 the complainant had information about the hideout of the accused and with the help of some people, he was arrested and handed over to the Suame police.

Chief Inspector Amoako, upon investigations it was noticed that Joshua had sold the cab to Afriyie at the cost of GH? 6,000.00, prepared a receipt for him and promised to provide the documents to the vehicle later.

He said Afriyie was also arrested and the vehicle retrieved from him.

After investigations the two were put before the court.
