Man, 66, defiles girl, 12

The Kumasi Gender-based court, presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyeman-Budu, has sentenced a 66-year-old security man to 15 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old girl at Asonomaso, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Antwi Gyeabour pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement contrary to section 101 0f Act 29/60 as amended by Section 11 of Act 554/98.

Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli, who led the prosecution team, said the victim attends the Asonomaso E.P Primary school while the Gyeabour is a security man at Life International School at Asonomaso, near Mamponteng in the Kwabre East district of the Ashanti Region.

He told the court that on July 24, 2014 at about 7pm the convict spotted the girl at a public toilet and lured her into a classroom where he defiled her.

After committing the heinous crime, he gave her GH¢1 and warned her not to disclose her ordeal to anyone.

However, a week after the incident, the girl’s father, the complainant in the case, noticed some changes in the way her daughter walked.

Upon questioning, she revealed that Gyeabour had carnal knowledge of her.

A report was made to the Tafo Pankrono branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) where the complainant was issued with a police medical form to take the victim to the hospital.

An examination on the minor confirmed that she had been defiled.
